Meshell Ndegeocello Throws Major Shade @ Prince!

HSK Exclusive – Is Meshell Ndegeocello a woman who can’t handle the truth? It sho nuff seems so! That’s because she fired shots at Prince, whose recent OG Breakdown led him to not just “reach an agreement with Warner Bros., but also land the Purple Bandit full ownership rights to the music he recorded on the label, from 1978 to the mid-90’s.

“The problems I had with so-called majors were regarding ownership and long-term contracts.” ~Prince

This news come a dozen years after Meshell Ndegeocello openly admitted she was “considered a failure in the music business” by her label. That’s around the same time Prince — who infamously penned the word ‘SLAVE’ across his face — checked Meshell, calling her a “house nigga”. Know why? Because rather than joining Prince in his public revolt against their WB label, Meshell did nothing more than just rant. Don’t believe me.. Just ask Material Girl Marge!

“Both Warner Bros. Records and Eye are quite pleased with the results of the negations and look forward to a fruitful working relationship.” ~Prince

Check out Meshell’s Twitter rant:

Here’s what Warner Bros. Chairman and CEO Cameron Strang had to say about Prince’s NEW DEAL:

“Everyone at Warner Bros. Records is delighted to be working with Prince once again: he is one of the world’s biggest stars and a truly unique talent. We are also very excited about the release of new and remastered music from one of his greatest masterpieces.”

Peep what Prince told Rolling Stone, during his revolt:

“People think I’m a crazy fool for writing ‘slave’ on my face. But if I can’t do what I want to do, what am I? When you stop a man from dreaming, he becomes a slave.”

Meanwhile.. Meshell Ndegeocello had this to say:

“Being considered a failure in the music business by my record company was a wake-up call. Those guys just don’t have that much power over me.

I try to make my life the way I need it to be and not complain about what other people are saying to me.”

Has Prince’s revolt led him to also change the game? Of course! Know why? According to Billboard.. “his deal marks a new era as the ability to terminate master recording copyright after 35 years was granted in the Copyright Revision Act of 1976 and became effective in 1978, the year that Prince’s debut album came out.”

    • Me, too.

I got her 1st CD years ago, I think she was on Madonna’s label? It was great.

        • Yes all the chicks on the girls basketball team in middle school used to sing that :(. Prince lost cool points when he launched his subscription only fan club promising prime seating at shows but canceling without refunds. Pretty cool he went platinum selling cds from web pre itunes era.

  1. People can judge prince’s character all they want but they can’t deny that man has power.People can say he ultra feminine but they know not to go against him.

  2. Prince is very passionate about his art. He didn’t want to be a slave like so many other artists. He fought for his rights. Meshell didn’t have his clout and didn’t want to stall her career. Prince is an example of what can be accomplished when you stand up for yourself and demand fairness. Afterall, he put in the hard work and he should reap most of the benefits. Way to Go, Prince.

  3. MeShell should have jumped on the band wagon with Prince. She is extremely talented and possibly could have had something bigger and better with Prince. You don’t survive as long as he as and be a fool. The new are suppose to learn from the old.

    • She had to be true to herself and what she wanted to do at the time, whether people consider it right or wrong! Everyone’s journey isn’t the same. Some people prefer not to jump aboard someone else’s bandwagon.

  4. He has no room to be calling anybody a house nigga. Regardless of whether she jumped on his bandwagon or not. How many of the acts he’s signed has he ripped off? Also, he’s the only damned slave I’ve ever heard of who has gone back to the plantation after being set free. All Prince cares about is $$$ and looking pretty. Meshell has more integrity in her little finger than his whole body and I am not a fan of her music or even her image.

    • Exactly. Now that he’s back with his ‘enslavers’, I wonder will he see to it that the people who worked w/him, protege’s, people who he did projects with, etc. will they get THEIR money now? I’m talking about the people who he benefited from/took advantage of while Warners was still tolerating him. Sure, I dig alot of his music,& Purple Rain, etc. should be recognized, but Prince is a hypocrite who’s done bad things to people. Maybe the chickens has or will come home to roost.

  5. If Michele really believes she’s not a slave well the Social Security Number on Banknote paper accompanied by 15 other StockMarket numbers proves otherwise.

  6. BlackAnastasia, tell the truth, little does anyone of us know, that we are truly bought and sold like cattle on the Nasdaq, ppl need to wake up,there is definitely a remedy to this social security stuff.due diligence and study the law, just because it’s legal,it does not make it lawful.why we are on topic, ppl don’t even own their so called name,or their children, when we registered our childrens, births we gave them away!!!!real talk!

    • SOOOOO true. People don’t realize this. Look at your ID, birth certificate – your name is in all caps which signifies a corporate entity owned by the government. Check it out.

    • @Fresh No Doubt. We are bonded by numbers to the Ruling Elite Rothschild’s Family and many have no clue of this fact. But,The BlackAnastasia was sent to reach the Truth and I will whether the Hear or Forebear.

  7. I’m happy this was settled amicably between prince&warner b/c imo he was definitely acting the houseniggaslave before his previous contract was terminated. Mechelle’s whole image needed reworking&while her music was goodstuff…warner had/has no clue how to move it….

    • With Michele being a openly Latifah her career was definitely not going very far.

  8. Her music was beautiful, though. She was from that era when music execs signed artists for their musical talent yet still were at a loss on how to meld image sound & market for consumption,,,,,

  9. MESHELL COULD’NT EVEN HIDE HER SEXUALITY.

IF SHE WOULD HAVE DID MORE R&B AND LESS ALTERNATIVE ROCK SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN AROUND LONGER.

SHE DID A SONG WITH JOHN MELLANCAMP SHE SHOULD HAVE CROSSEDOVER.

WHITES ACCEPTED PRINCE AND MICHAEL JACKSON DOING ROCK AND ROLL BECAUSE THEY WAS BOTH EFFEMINATE AND NON THREATENING TO WHITES.

MESHELL AROUND THE WHITE MAINSTREAM ESPECIALLY AROUND HARD ROCK WHITE GIRLS WOULD HAVE BEEN INTIMIDATING BUT MADONNA CAN BE A PROUD BISEXUAL.

BLACKS WHO WANT TO BE GAY, BI OR LESBIAN BEWARE YOU ARE STILL A LESSER MINORITY.

  10. Princes music now all sounds twenty years old. Ship has sailed. He’s an oldies act.

  11. Truthfully… What would do numbers is an album they both produce on each other with each other with a duet of the 2 on each one. Bury that dumb ass hatchet and get it cracklin. He knows she’s the female equivalent of himself and she wanted to play in his band years ago.

  12. I don’t blame Meshell. Prince was never down with the brown and Meshell is pretty chocolate.

If she had ride with him, he would have eventually thrown her overboard.

You cannot hitch your wagon to someone who hates your race (and his).

  13. Does a person need to be attractive to you , to make good music?I see why the good artist who have real talent can’t catch a break ..superficial fools!

  14. I love Prince’s music but that comment does have some truth to it! Some of these artist don’t fully embrace their roots until they are given a reality dose by the others..if ya get my drift! That’s when shyt gets real..but good for him. I’m sure he’s thrilled to own his publishing.

  15. And judging by your comment, you have an ugly heart. Plus you are obviously a warped misogynist. She’s musician and not a f*cking model.

  16. Her song “Loyalty” will bring tears to your eyes. For a comparision of how music has changed, compare that song with Chris Brown’s “These Hoes Ain’t Loyal.”

  17. I can agree with what the both of them are saying but, why bring out sh*t from the past! What happened to if you have a problem with somebody take it to them not everywhere else. Adults need to stop acting like bickering children on social media. Prince you are not a christian or have love for God. If you did you would not be playing in the devils playground. Who are you to judge anyone’s character? I’m quite sure Jesus doesn’t listen to ” Darling Nicki”…has
