The Aaliyah biopic, Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, which was executive produced by Wendy Williams, has been scheduled to premiere on November 15. It will air on the Lifetime network.

The project has been criticized since its inception for reasons including….

Starting with the public outcry when Zendaya Coleman was cast to play Aaliyah, only to be soon replaced by Alexandra Shipp. Then Lifetime was rebuked for planning to premiere on the day Aaliyah died, August 25th.

When casting the film, Missy and Timbaland were deemed too black and recast with lighter skin actors. Photographed above is the actor cast to play Damon Dash, Anthony Grant. It was also revealed that R. Kelly was hired as a consultant to the production.

      • I wonder if they’ll reveal the fact that Aaliyah let R. Kelly beat the p*ssy up? Fuck that fake ass “good girl” image, she was fast as hell.

  1. That channel always gets horrible reviews on anything and everything that they premiere. they better get ready for all those lawsuits

  2. She Was A Black Women Not Biracial!!
Black People Come In All Shades Light,Brown,Golden Brown Aailyah Was Brown Skin This Actress Who’s Playing Aayliah Looks Nothing Like Her
Zendaya Also. Stop Casting These Self Hating Biracial People In Black Roles!!

    • how do you know they are self hating? dark skinned people are way more self hating than anyone. more likely to date a half breed or outside of your race, blond hair , blue contacts looking redick, shaving the back of your necks up to your earlobes, shaving your hair off completely because you hate your hair texture, and dark skinned stay in a light skinned chicks face, totally obsessed stalkers. dark skins stay losing

  3. Nope, I’m not watching racist Hollywood version of a black woman tale. Usually Hollywood waits 2 to 3 decades before doing a tell of someone who died that was loved.

  4. Wendy Williams smh really? They should of chosen JULISSA BERMUDEZ from 106 & Parks now she favor Aaliyah and not those other scrub cast they got. Give me a job let me show you how its done. Even though shes mixed she looks closer than the rest. Watch it be Jacked up

  5. Looks nothing like Aaliyah once again lifetime u suck!!! None of the ppl in their movies look anything like the originals!!

  6. Aaliyah Princess of R&B Review:

I’m going to say it…I think that Alex shipp acting was ok. Alex singing was horrible. The cast over all was horrible. It was very clever to use both ISLEY BROTHERS songs being that Aaliyah recorded a new version of both songs. To me the funniest part was when they speeded up, slowed down, and speeded up again JOURNEY TO THE PAST. They could have chosen someone much closer to Dame Dash complexion and height; he might have well been playing drake cause that’s who he looks like. The ending was not an ending at all, they could have at least ended it with her getting on a plane to the Bahamas. Wendy needs to stick to her Gossip daytime show and never produce a movie again. In a way I kinda wish the Haughtons would have released the movie (like Selena family) a couple of years after her death because by not doing so it gave producers like Wendy and Lifetime a chance to tell the story about Aaliyah without really knowing who she was. Anyway I just thought that I’d share my opinion.

  7. Wendy as just the executive producer. That’s basically an honorary position(more or less.) A name which helps get financing and production greenlighted. She didn’t really have anything to do with the actual shooting or casting.
Your review was well done. The only thing I want to add, and this isn’t personal-it’s from a business perspective only: when white people are filming/watching/directing a project, they don’t even notice skin shade of A-A people. It’s weird too, because it is such an ever present notion here at HSK. I remember the fuss over the casting of the biracial actress last summer! Whoa! But anyway, whoever cast the actor playing Dame probably didn’t give his skin tone a second thought.
I missed the show last night, but knowing Lifetime, they’ll be replaying it today.

  8. That movie was sorry! I agree with Babs. That song sped up and slow down so quick my mouth fell open. Need a bigger movie. I hope and pray Aaliyah’s family, Timbaland, Missy and even R. Kelly himself put it together like a real movie should. Not to mention get some actors even if it is the real life folks to play their parts. Imma tell ya. If they get Lolita Price and R. Kelyy see her, boy oh boy! Flashback here we come!
