The city of Chicago will sue Jussie Smollett even though the criminal charges against him were dropped. The city wants the actor to cover the amount they paid their workers to investigate his staged racist, homophobic attack.
Chicago’s corporate counsel, Ed Siskel, sent Jussie a letter a week ago demanding the Empire actor make a payment within 7 days. The deadline expired on Thursday evening, and now the city wants their $130,000.
“Mr. Smollett has refused to reimburse the City of Chicago for the cost of police overtime spent investigating his false police report on January 29, 2019 […] The Law Department is now drafting a civil complaint that will be filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Once it is filed, the Law Department will send a courtesy copy of the complaint to Mr. Smollett’s Los Angeles-based legal team.” – Bill McCaffrey, Chicago legal department spokesman
